Picking The Right Wrestling Shoe
Whether you’re a beginner bantamweight wrestler, a heavyweight national champion, or you shoot doubles like Burroughs, you’ll most likely need a pair of wrestling shoes. Of course, there have been a handful of examples of successful wrestlers who have one or less feet (search Kyle Maynard or Anthony Robles), and that is ridiculously impressive. If you do have feet, we have a full range of wrestling shoes in all styles, colors and sizes for you to choose from. Unlike many big box sports stores, we carry ALL sizes of wrestling shoes from K10 to adult size 16. If they make it, we have it.
Customers ask us all the time, “Where are your women’s shoes?” The answer is they’re all women’s shoes! They’re also all men’s shoes. Wrestling shoes are all made to be unisex; you won’t see differences in male vs. female styles like you would with running shoes, sneakers, or swanky dress shoes. However, the sizing on the tags is based on the men’s size chart. In general, you’ll want to go down 1-1.5 sizes from your normal women’s size get the right men’s size. Isn't it the other way around? Go down 1-1.5 sizes from the men's size to the get the women's size.
Now for the big question: what on earth is the difference between all these shoes. The truth about wrestling shoes is that there is no “best” or “worst”, sorry to break the news. Choosing the perfect wrestling shoe for you is all about personal preference, feel, the shape of your foot, and often your own wrestling style. Shoes vary by flexibility, grip, weight, material, width, and visual appearance. Also, please note that some of our shoes are recommended for competition only. The reason for this is they are built for high performance and elite level wrestling. However, these shoes do not always guarantee the best durability. If you plan to purchase competition shoes, we highly recommend having at least one other pair to practice in regularly.
You’ll often see Olympic wrestlers wearing the cheapest shoes and beginners wearing the most expensive ones. The beauty of it is neither is wrong; it’s all about finding what works and makes you feel like a champion. We have done our best to include as much detail as possible about each shoe in our online descriptions. If you have any further questions about shoes, please contact our customer service at 888-887-8893.
Keep in mind, wrestling shoes are notoriously tricky to find the perfect fit. We know how frustrating it can be to find the right fit and feel, if you’re shopping online and shipping things back and forth when you get the wrong size. Uuggh. It’s the worst. If you’re local, come try them on in our Southern California showroom. Otherwise, you can contact us with questions on a specific model you’re interested in. We have a pretty good handle on how the different brands and styles fit. If you end up with the wrong size, just let us know and we will help you exchange it for the right size. Please see our Return Policy page for details.

Nike Freeks, nike freeks wrestling shoes for saleNike Freek: Premium wrestling shoe for freakishly good wrestlers
The Nike Freek is one of the most highly acclaimed and popular wrestling shoes that Nike has ever released – and with good reason. Its one-of-a-kind outsole with flexible grooves was a precursor to the famous Nike Free articulated outsole. The upper utilizes built-in mesh ventilation to manage temperature while your train and allow for fast drying between workouts. The shoe’s support is reinforced with leather and synthetics to support even the strongest, fastest, and post powerful wrestlers. The midsole was designed and constructed with both style and durability mind, including a sleek protective layer wraping around the toe. When you lace these up, your feet will feel comfortable, powerful, and supported. And, of course, it comes with a unique Velcro lace management system in compliance with High School and Collegiate regulations. To top it off, what would any Nike shoe be without the famous Nike Swoosh proudly displayed on each side? So if you were waiting for an invitation, this is it. We are inviting you to join the Freek club.
- Lightweight mesh upper with durable suede synthetics for support.
- Rubberized TPU around the forefoot for superior medial and lateral support and traction
- Flex grooves in the outsole allow for superior flexibility and movement on the mat, while built in ventilation in the outsole helps dry you shoes after grueling matches and practices
- Unique grooves in the outsole provide unthinkable flexibility, allowing for quick, precise, and comfortable movement
- Built-in outsole ventilation will keep your feet cool while you train and compete, and help the shoes dry faster afterwards
The Nitty Gritty Details
When are the Nike Hypersweeps coming out?
The Nike Hypersweep, along with the rest of the Nike Freeks are expected to be release near the end of September. However, I would strongly urge you to not take that as any kind of promise or guarantee of a delivery date or that we will even get them in at the same time. The only shoes that we have control over are the ones that are already physically here in our warehouse ready to ship. Although there are expected release dates and estimated time ranges in which we expect shoes to come in, those shoes have to pass through a series of hands before they get to us. They are shipped from overseas, then have to pass through customs, ship to our vendor (Nike), they have to receive them in and quality check them, and then allocate them to the appropriate distributors such as ourselves before shipping them to us. Even of some of the shoes get here on time, our past expereinces have shown us that often these large booking orders get delviered to us in "waves". So even though we expect to get all the shoes in the same time frame, often we'll get "chunks" of the shipment set apart by a few days or a week at a time. After we get everything in, there is still some processing time in which we have to receive those shoes into our inventory, and prepare them to be shipped for individual orders. I know this is a long answer to a simple question, but hopefully it provides some transparency into why we don't publish an exact date for shoes that haven't come in yet. More often than not, shoes end up coming in later than expected, for one reason or another. Every so often, we get lucky and get shoes early, be we gerenally don't bank on it.

Question by NikeFreek!
on 25 Jul, 2016
Hey! I just have a question I use my speed and quickness when I wrestle and I always wore the Nike takedown and I just got the freeks and they feel heavier and I can't move how I want in them but what if I get the inflicts will they feel and be the same since they have the same bottom and their light ?
Thanks for the question! I can tell you know your wrestling shoes pretty well. The Nike Freek is the most grippy and supportive shoe in Nike's product line. From what it sounds like, you'll love the Inflict. It is a much more flexible and faster wrestling shoe. I would compare it to being a higher end version of the Takedown. In fact, the Takedown and Inflict have almost identical tread patterns.
Answered by Dave Applegate on 25 Jul, 2016
Unfortunately, I am not aware of the blue, black and red style for the Nike Freek. Do you have a picture of that wrestling shoe you can send to support@wrestlingmart.com. As for the Freek colors on this page, we will be receiving a big Nike Freek shipment August / September. We will be allowing our customers to reserve a copy of Nike Shoes for this upcoming order later this week. )

on 30 Jun, 2016
WHAT IS DIFFERENCES IN FREEKS AND INFLICT 3S AND WHICH ONES WOULD YOU RECOMMEND OUT OF THE FOR ME I AM MORE OF A LOW SINGLE AND I USE MY QUICKNESS. What would you recommend for me?
The Nike Freek and Inlfict 3s are both great shoes. The Freek has a lot more grip and support than the Inflict while the Inflict is a quicker more flexible shoe. From what it sounds like, I'd suggest the Nike Inflict 3 if you're looking for a Nike shoe with the most speed and flexibility.

Question by Gabriel
on 26 Jun, 2016
The Nike Freek is a solid sole wrestling shoe that has quite a bit of grip on the sole. On the outsides of the shoe, the felt makes the Freek a little more slippery. If you are looking for a wrestling shoe that only has grip on the bottom, I'd highly recomend the Nike Freek. If you are looking for a wrestling shoe that has grip higher up on the shoe, I'd recoemnd checking out the Adidas Mat Wizard or ASICS Aggessor 2.

Wrestling Shoes Review 2015 by Danny Ives, nike freeks wrestling shoes for saleSince we're getting set to launch our first wrestling specific class in about 2 weeks I thought for today's blog I'd do a review of wrestling shoes and which ones I feel are worth investing in.
Before you jump all over me and question my creditability let me assure you of two things:
First, I know a lot about wrestling and wrestling shoes. More then most.
Second, I collect wrestling shoes and have been for many years. I'm a bit of what you might call a “shoe snob”.
I like the good stuff and anything less gets a thumbs down.
Why would someone wear wrestling shoes you might be asking? In the sport of wrestling, shoes are required.
You'll also catch a lot of high level MMA Fighters rocking wrestling shoes during their training.
Wrestling shoes can prevent mat burn and ankle injuries so it makes sense to use them. It's very common in MMA to wear wrestling shoes.
Wrestling shoes are very different from a tennis or basketball show. Wrestling shoes are designed a lot differently then street shoes because they need to be worn while wrestling a match.
Have you ever tried fighting in a pair of bulky street shoes? Not easy huh.
Wrestling shoes have less overall padding and a thinner sole on the bottom.
The idea is to create a sock like feel when you're on the mats, not a clunky heavy shoe like the ones basketball players have on.
Some wrestling shoes can be a bit thicker and beefier, that's true. But for the most part a good wrestling shoe will be super lightweight, flexible and feel almost like nothing on your feet during takedowns.
Okay now that we've covered that stuff let's move on to the brands, shoes and all that good stuff.
The wrestling show market really has only three major players in it, Asics, Adidas and Nike. They do however, make a crapton of models.
Yes there's other brands too like Brute, Clinch and a few others but at the end of the day, the big three, Nike, Adidas and Asics rule with this market with an iron fist.
The old standby – Asics
Asics has been around the longest, I think. If not then it's close between them and Adidas.
Asics top selling models include the Cael's (named after Olympic champ Cael Sanderson) and the Aggressers.
Asics makes a mean shoe. People can say what they want but let me tell you them there Japanese know what they're doing.
I'd actually have to say when it comes to overall quality of design and construction, Asics is #1.
Awesome shoe! These are the Asics Dave Schultz wrestling shoes. One of the best ever.
Asics last a long time and are made super well…but with one drawback…
Asics is not a show made for the wide footed fellow.
That's my only gripe with Asics. Awesome shoes, well made and all that but man most models are super narrow and if you've got fat feet like me, Asics won't get the job done.
I've tried so many different models but time and time again, too skinny for me. So if you've got feet like me, avoid Asics.
Enter Adidas
Adidas, like Asics, has a lot of skin in the game. That means they've been around a while. That translates to “they know what their doing”.
My personal opinion is that Adidas has the most comfortably shoes on the market. Adidas tends to make a wider shoe in most models, which is great for me.
Read more: 3m medipore h surgical tapeThe quality isn't there like with Asics, that's the thing. Adidas will fall apart much sooner then asics.
Another classic great shoe, the Combat Speeds by Adidas. A must have for any collector
But while you've got them, they're pretty sweet. I like the Combat Speeds and the Adizero's. Both are really nice shoes.
Yes Nike does in fact make wrestling shoes…good ones too!
Now where does Nike fall into all this? I'll tell you what, I got a new pair of Nike Inflicts about a year ago and dude these shoes are freaking nice!
Very comfortably, a bit on the wider side, which as you know was right up my alley. I've gotta admit, Nike hit a home run with those Inflicts.
I would say Nike is the least known of the three kings but they stay popular year after year and from my test driving Nike got it right.
Blue Nike Inflicts, a very nice shoe i must say!
I heard Nike was getting out of the wrestling shoe business but as of right now that appears to be just an ugly rumor.
I hope Nike doesn't bail on wrestling. My first pair of wrestling shoes were Nike's and they were fantastic.
Who takes the cake in the wrestling shoe department?
So all this talk about wrestling shoes, now comes the big question…which is best?
Depending on who you ask people will say one brand is better then the other. Some swear by Asics, others Nike.
The most important thing is that the shoes fit you. Not them. That's key and I can't stress that enough.
For quality and craftsmanship, Asics by far. For comfort and I guess you could even say “style”, then Adidas.
Then the sleeper shoe, the Nike Inflicts or if you can find them, the “Freeks” combine a little style with comfort and quality.
I'll let you make the decision. Choose wisely is my advice 🙂
Articles, nike freeks wrestling shoes for saleIt's been a while, but that doesn't mean that I have stopped paying WAY too much attention to wrestling shoes and their trends. It's like Dr Dre says in Forgot about Dre, "Now you wanna run around talk about guns, like I ain't got none, what you think I sold them all?" With that being said, my affinity for wrestling shoes will never die, similarly to Dre's affections for fire arms.
Like many weekend nights end up since I have had a kid, I find myself watching something on TV at about 8:30 or so and wondering what to do. At that point, there is always checking out wrestling shoes to see if anything new has surfaced of if there are any deals that I can't pass up. This weekend, I was happy to find that there were many MANY new options to choose from. As idiotic as it sounds, if you provide more color choices, you may sell more shoes! The Combat Speeds absolutely capitalized on this in the last year or two. Everyone my age loved the combat speeds, mostly because only good wrestlers wore them. Adidas smartly brought them back and offered more than the initial variety of the Red/Black and Emerald/Yellow/Pink.
Let's not give Adidas too much credit here though. They needed to reintroduce the Combat Speed 3's and eventually offer a second color before they realized how simplistic it would be to simply recreate the classic to sell shoes. It's no wonder they haven't brought back the original Kendall Cross Adistars.
Wrestling Gear, nike freeks wrestling shoes for saleWrestlingPod offers a wide variety of wrestling headgear for both youth and adult wrestlers. Our headgear comes from suppliers; Brute, Cliff Keen Athletics, Asics, and Matman. The top selling headgear we currently have in stock in the Cliff Keen Tornado Headgear. This headgear is a head above the competition as far as comfort, weight, and hearing are concerned. New headgear releases from Brute and Matman mimic the design of the Tornado Headgear, offering additional options when choosing a high end wrestling headgear.
Offering a very large variety of singlets for both freestyle and folkstyle wrestling. We carry both high cut and low cut singlets from designers Cliff Keen Athletics, Asics, Matman, and Adidas. Our current pick is the Matman Athens singlet, which will be worn by the 2004 US Olympic team when they take the mat in Athens, Greece.
WrestlingPod offers both Asics Wrestling Shoes and Adidas Wrestling Shoes. Both Asics and Adidas have released new shoes this year, though it is our opinion that Adidas defiantly created the better products. The Adidas Adistar and AdiStarSL, Response, and the Adidas A'ttaak all are going to be popular shoes this coming season. The Asics Fifty Four and Split Second V are new styles, while Asics will add on to the current best seller the Asics Cael, by adding a Red/White/Blue color option.
WrestlingPod offers wrestling kneepads to prevent knee injuries while on the mat. Our main kneepad suppliers are Asics and Brute, both companies offer quality kneepads that only have slight differences. The Volleyball, Unrestrained, and Takedown kneepads are our personal choices, but the Super Sleeve and Gel Lycra kneepads also provide quality protection.

Wrestling shoes literally provide the foundation of a wrestler’s body. They are designed with the understanding that a wrestler needs grip, flexibility, and stability for optimum performance. They also provide critical foot and ankle support to protect against injury. Most wrestlers prefer the flexibility, mobility, and protection they receive from high ankle shoes, but what works for most, does not necessarily work for all. Other factors include ventilation, cushioning, the weight of the material, and the type of sole. Choosing the perfect pair of wrestling shoes requires a wrestler to assess strengths and weaknesses honestly. Then you must consider how each of these features can affect those. We offer top of the line wrestling shoes for athletes of all ages and levels in a myriad of styles. Your wrestling shoes should not only enhance your performance and protect you from injury but also reflect your personality. Browse the latest from top brands in wrestling shoes such as in ASICS. adidas. and more.

Ringgold wrestler Doug Gudenburr shows off two of his favorite pairs of wrestling shoes.
SUBMITTED
Listen to Ringgold High School junior Doug Gudenburr speak and he rattles off terms that represent a language all of its own. To the naked ear, it might just be a language of highly sophisticated or complex terms, or perhaps a language housed in a secret code.
Asics Cael, Asics Rulon, Black Nike OG, Nike Kolat Speed, Nike Freeks, to name a few of those other-worldly language terms. Then, of course, to add more mystery to those terms, Gudenburr throws in OE's or P2's for good measure, or perhaps just to confuse the listener.
For Gudenburr, one of several members of his junior class with a 4.0 grade average and No. 1 academic ranking (out of 247 members of the class), it's a language he rarely uses in the classroom, but rather with an exclusive group of friends, wrestlers from both Ringgold and high schools across the country.
A member of the Rams wrestling team, Gudenburr, who is enrolled in all AP (Advanced Placement) classes, has already established himself as one of the premier wrestlers in the WPIAL. As a freshman competing in the 106-pound weight class, he finished his season with a 33-6 mark, including runner-up in the section. A broken collarbone in Regionals ended his successful season on a disappointing note. Moving up to the 113-pound class as a sophomore last year, he was 27-7, again second in the section. However, his third-place showing at Regionals earned a trip to the PIAA championships, where, as the first Ringgold sophomore in school history to advance to the state tournament, he dropped both matches. This season, Gudenburr compiled a 32-9 record. He finished third in the section and split four matches in Regional competition.
“Doug works at wrestling and he puts in a lot of time,” said Ringgold wrestling coach Bob Bove. “He is 5-9 and tall for his weight class, and he knows how to use his height to his advantage and uses his leverage well. He does extra work to improve and wrestles throughout the year. He is tough and competitive and wants to improve. He is not just satisfied with being a state qualifier as he was last year.”
However, his junior year got off to a rocky start. Having had his tonsils removed on Nov. 3, he was sidelined for three weeks, but that's when he found the proverbial silver lining.
Disappointed that he was temporarily forced off the mat, he spoke with a wrestler from another area school — about wrestling, of course — and that friend told him about collecting wrestling shoes, a rapidly growing hobby throughout the country in the wrestling community.
“Since I wasn't able to wrestle that I wanted to stay involved somehow,” Gudenburr said, adding that he became familiar with an app called Flickr to meet other wrestlers, exchange texts and trade for each others shoes. He has traded with wrestlers from all over the country, with California his farthest trade destination. “You can see how connected the national wrestling community becomes regarding wrestling shoes. But sometime we just talk about our season and different techniques, too, so it's nice to hear what is happening with wrestling around the country. Wrestling is a unique sport, and all wrestlers have the same things in common, like conditioning and having to make weight for matches. We are all dedicated.”
While Gudenburr admits he has been on Flickr for only several months, he has acquired some “crazy” shoes.
“All the shoes I have owned are crazy because they are worth a lot of money,” Gudenburr said, laughing. “I'm the only one on my team who collects shoes and my teammates ask how much different shoes I wear cost. They tell me I'm crazy to spend so much on one pair of shoes, but I'm having fun.”
Still a relative novice in the trading community, Gudenburr has 11 pairs of shoes and wears each pair, saving the rarer shoes for matches.
“Doug recently brought in a new pair of Nike Kolat Illinois Special shoes,” Bove added. “They are blue and orange, colors of the University of Illinois. He's always coming in with a different pair.”
Gudenburr's collection includes Asics Rulons (named for Rulon Gardner, Olympic champion), Illinois (Olympic champion Cary Kolat) Kolat Internationals, Nike Kolat Speed, Nike Freeks, Black Nike OG, Asics Cael, and a pair of 2008 OE's Olympic Edition.
“Rare and expensive” is how Gudenburr identifies some of the shoes he has or had and subsequently traded or sold. His first pair of “blues” cost him $180, which he traded for OG Teals and Blue Rulons. He has seen wrestlers spend $2000 on one pair of extremely rare 1987 Ringers.
“That's $2,000 for a brand new, still in the box, never worn pair of shoes,” he added, laughing. “Kids often pay $1,000 for a pair of shoes. Over time you work your way up to better shoes and make more money and spend more money.”
While he has not yet reached that price tag — wrestling shoes are priced between $50 and $175 at one area sporting goods store — the most he paid for a pair (of Kolats) was $350. In a subsequent sale of those shoes, plus another pair, he received $550.
In addition to his unique money-making venture, Gudenburr wears his shoes for practices and matches. His favorite shoes are his Blue Asics Rulons, “the most comfortable shoes I've worn,” he said. “They have a lot of grip on the mat and I have also had had good luck wearing them, and they look neat.”
